For painted wooden floors: Washing Soda, combine 1 teaspoon washing soda into 1 gallon hot water and wash the floor with a mop, sponge, or soft bristled brush.  Also, it might interest you to know that if you have mildew in your home you can use this solution too.

For brick and stone floors you can also use vinegar. Mix 1 cup white vinegar into 1 gallon water. Scrub the floor with a brush and the vinegar solution. Rinse with clean water.

If you have a floor made up of ceramic tiles then you can use vinegar to clean them.  All you have to do is mix up a quarter of a cup of white vinegar with a gallon of water, if your tiles are very dirty then you can use some more vinegar than this. This solution  removes most dirt without scrubbing and you don’t need to worry about having a film develop over the tiles. If you have hard water in your area then you will find that using soap and water is no where near as good as it leaves an insoluble film.

To remove black heel marks simply use baking soda.  It’s really very easy as all you do is mix the powder with some water and rub it into the mark. Just ensure that you don’t add in too much qater water as this will dilute the baking soda too much and it’s won’t be as effective.
